THEY WERE ON POSTCARD RECORDS (2)

It may have been based in Glasgow and is probably best known for Orange Juice.  But the band which released the most material on Postcard actually came from Edinburgh:-

mp3 : Josef K – Radio Drill Time
mp3 : Josef K – Crazy To Exist
(Postcard 80-3 : September 1980)

mp3 : Josef K – It’s Kinda Funny
mp3 : Josef K – Final Request
(Postcard 80-5 : December 1980)

mp3 : Josef K – Sorry For Laughing
mp3 : Josef K – Revelation
(Released on Crepuscule under license
TWI023/Postcard 81-4 : April 1981)

mp3 : Josef K – Chance Meeting
mp3 : Josef K – Pictures (of Cindy)
(Postcard 81-5 : May 1981)

And of course, Josef K were the only act who ever had an LP released via the original Postcard label when The Only Fun In Town hit the shops in July 1981 with the catalogue number 81-7.

  1. It’s going to be hard for me to find a better Postcard single than It’s Kinda Funny. The jangle, the depth, Paul Haig’s vocal…I can listen to this single on repeat for hours. The b-side is a gem of frenetic post punk pop. Ian Curtis loomed large over this single and he’s a positive inspiration to all involved.

  2. OK, Echorich, put up your dukes! I’m going with Sorry For Laughing… probably because that was the first one I ever heard from the band. Perhaps JC will step in and settle this for us in a couple of days.

  3. Aargh…..typo disaster.

There’s of course no way both Radio Drill Time and It’s Kinda Funny can both have a catalogue # 80-3…..thanks for the heads-up furrball.

    Skulks-off ashen-faced………………………………

  4. Well Brian, it certainly is a close call, I will heartily admit. Sorry For Laughing is a pretty monumental song and it still amazes me to this day that it was covered by Propaganda on their debut album – being the second best track on the album in my humble opinion.
It goes without saying that Josef K was one of the greatest singles bands of the early Post Punk Pop era.
